Shipping policy
A hand-knotted rug is a heavy, slow and particular thing to send across a country or a sea. What follows is exactly how we do it.
How a rug is prepared
Every piece is checked by hand before it leaves Lahore. It is then rolled, never folded, and wrapped against moisture. Folding sets a crease into the foundation that can take weeks to relax and, in a fine piece, can break it. Rolling asks nothing of the rug. It arrives as it left.
What a rug weighs
More than most people expect. A small Bokhara weighs about five kilos; a room-sized piece can weigh more than fifty. Rolled, a large rug becomes a cylinder around thirty centimetres across and as long as the rug is wide.
That shape matters. Air freight is charged on whichever is greater, the real weight or the space a parcel occupies, and a rolled rug is almost always billed on the space. It is the single reason a rug costs more to send than its weight suggests, and we would rather you knew it now than wondered about it later. Ask, and we will give you the exact weight and rolled size of any piece before anything is booked.
Within Pakistan
Delivery within Pakistan is free. The rug travels by courier with tracking, and the tracking number reaches you by email, and on WhatsApp if you prefer, the moment it moves. A piece held in Lahore is dispatched within two to four working days of the order being confirmed.
Outside Pakistan
Delivery abroad is arranged individually, and that is why checkout does not offer it.
A rug leaving Pakistan is an export, not a parcel. Its cost depends on its weight and rolled size, the destination, the carrier and the route, and a fixed rate would be wrong for almost everyone. So we quote each one by hand, door to door, before you commit to anything: the carrier, the route, the transit time and the full cost of delivery, in writing.
Write to the house on WhatsApp at +92 334 4441247, or through the desk on any page, and tell us the piece and the destination. Most messages are answered within the hour. Our rugs already live in homes and projects from the United States and Japan to Sweden, Spain and Brazil. There are very few places we cannot reach.
Duties and taxes
Import duty and local tax are set by your own country, not by us, and are payable by the recipient when the rug arrives. We cannot calculate them in advance and will not pretend to. Every shipment is declared accurately and at its true value. If you want a sense of what to expect, your country's customs office will tell you for hand-knotted wool carpets, and we are glad to send the details they ask for.
Trade, projects and quantity
Bokhara is held in depth, in matching designs and sizes, and is supplied in quantity for hotels, retailers and projects. Wholesale, project and container orders are arranged individually, with freight, documentation and terms agreed in writing before anything moves. Write to us with the requirement and we will quote against it.
If something goes wrong
If a rug arrives damaged, photograph it as it comes out of the wrapping, before it is laid down, and write to us within 48 hours of delivery. We will put it right. A rug that has travelled from Lahore to your floor deserves a conversation, not a form.
Any question at all, before or after you order, write to us. It is what the desk is for.
