Questions
What is a Tekke rug?
A Bokhara drawn in the manner of the Turkmen Tekke: rows of guls joined by a fine lattice, set close together, with small, precise detail. It is the most disciplined drawing in the Bokhara tradition.
What is the difference between a Tekke and a Gul Bokhara?
The lattice. A Gul Bokhara sets its octagons in open rows; a Tekke joins them with fine lines running across and down the field, so the whole surface reads as a windowpane.
Is a Royal Bokhara the same as a Tekke?
Yes. "Royal Bokhara" has been used for Tekke Bokharas since the mid-nineteenth century. It names the drawing, not a quality grade.
How much does a Tekke rug cost?
Loomish prices three-ply Bokhara, Tekke included, at Rs 4,000 a square foot. A 5 by 8 foot Tekke, forty square feet, is about Rs 160,000.
Can I get matching Tekke rugs for several rooms?
Yes. Tekke is held in depth, so the same design can be supplied again in the same or another size. Send the rooms and sizes on WhatsApp and the house says what exists.
